Seeing how I have an iPhone I've been using iTunes as my music player. It's far from perfect but it has some neat features, and since I need to have it installed because of the phone I might as well use it.
One of the features it has is to show the cover art of all your albums in a neat graphical presentation called Cover Flow. However it often ends up showing the same cover more than once and somewhat ruining the experience. So I set out to see if I could fix it and found a simple solution.
It all comes down to who iTunes believes have made the tracks. If you have an album only one (group of) artist(s), it'll usually work just fine. But if it's a collection of different artists like so many soundtracks or other albums are, iTunes believes that it shouldn't put the two entries together into one cover in Cover Flow.
After all it only has the same album name, that surely isn't enough to tell if it's on the same album. Oh wait...
In any case, there's a way to help iTunes figure this out. And we do this with 4 easy steps as follows:
1. Select all the songs in the album/collection.
2. Right click them and select "Get Info" from the menu.
3. Type something into "Album Artist". Note that it's not the same as "Artist" so it will still show you who made the song. This field is usually not filled. I often use "Various artists" or something more applicable.
4. Click the "OK" button.
Now you're done! This should fix the issue 9/10 times.
What's that? You want to know why it doesn't 1/10 times? I haven't got the faintest. Go ask Apple. And tell me what they say if you get an response.
